Attention: Mr. Herman Foster

Dear Mr. Foster:

This will confirm our telephone conversation of December 1, 1958 concerning the interchangeability of certain Model 278 and Model 215 propeller blades.

The 215-208-84 propeller blade is the same as the 278-213-84 propeller blade except for the counterweight which is included as a part of the 215-208-84 blade assembly. The blades are interchangeable with each other by removing or adding the counterweight and re-identifying by a licensed propeller shop. That is, the 215-208-84 blade may be changed to a 278-213-84 blade by removing the counterweight and re-identifying 278-213-84 and the 278-213-84 blade may be changed to a 215-208-84 by installing the B200-347 counterweights and re-identifying 215-208-84. The identification should be stamped in the butt end of the blade replacing the old identification and the placard on the camber face should also have the new blade number.

We did not mention that the counterweight would make a little difference in the weight of the blades; however, this would be caught during the propeller balance. The balance is to be corrected on the blade that is being changed to comply with the weight category requirements. If two blades are being changed for one propeller, each blade is to be balanced horizontally and vertically with a new unchanged blade of the same type as the propeller.

We trust this will assist you with the blade change. It does not appear to be an economical change, however the changeability can be helpful in an emergency.

Very truly yours,
