Mobil 28 Synthetic. Clean the bearing really good to remove any traces of old grease that may not be synthetic. Replace the seals and grommets. |

Thanks for the info. Are the seals you are talking about the ones on the bearing itself and if so are the still available new if mine are bad?
thanks again _________________ William |

Yes, the seals are for the pitch change ass'y. Those and the grommets can be purchased from Byam Propeller in Ft Worth TX, or Ottosen Propeller in AZ, whichever is closer to you. The grommets should be REPLACED every 100 hours. The bolts through the grommets should be able to be turned by hand. Theres alot of little stuff you need to know.
Make sure you are very deliberate and do the prop servicing "by the book" as you can easily re-index the prop to the wrong setting(s) and generally screw up alot of very expensive items if you do not know what you are doing. For example, it is very easy to reinstall the pitch change mechanism incorrectly. You won't know you did it wrong until you try to get take-off RPM on your run-up.
The servicing is only around $250 at Byam in Ft Worth, if you remove the prop and take it in....Well worth it....I would imagine that Ottosen and other Beech-electric-capable prop shops rates would be comparable.
Might be something to consider if you have never donme it before... Ask if you can watch! <grin>
I'm a Beech-oriented A&P and would not call the prop servicing something an owner should tackle......It's not like an oil change or spark plug servicing.
Regards,

Our shop uses Lubriplate 1200-2 for our servicing. Supposedly it stays in place longer at the warmer temperatures of Southwest Florida.
The book says MIL-G-3278, and the greases I have found that meet that specification are Nye Rheotemp 500 and Exxon's Beacon 325 and Mobilgrease 27.
I think the most important thing is to get the pitch change re-greased every 24 calendar months or 250 operating hours, whichever comes first. We always get a fine speckling of grease on our cowling front and windshield, I think if that stops, the bearing has no more grease left in it. _________________ o--\O/--o |
