I am currently considering the purchase of a 1947 bonanza. It has landed gear up and needs the nosewheel gear doors and several fuselage belly panels replaced. Any thoughts on what these repairs would cost? In addition it has a prop which appears to be wood with plastic lamination. Is this prop under any type of Airworthiness Directive? Is it feasible to consider an Old Bonanza with NO logbooks? The plane looks nice but needs some TLC. Its looking less and less feasible to tackle such a project considering cost of parts and availability.Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks
Chuck

The price would vary wildly with the work done or provided, to some acceptable limit. Most gear ups would include engine teardown and inspection, new prop, reskin flaps, new belly skins, and sometimes gear doors and sometimes nose bowl or some bulkheads, the list goes on. If the owner had insurance, most 1947 Bonanzas from a gear up would reach policy limits and the plane would go as salvage. Figure at least $20K to $35K for starters on repair. This doesn't include the time and expense of moving or waiting for the repair and paint. Plane value after repair could also be lower due to damage history. And we haven't discussed what caused the gear up, was it pilot error or mechanical problem, then would have to address that issue. Also depends on the overall condition of the airframe to begin with, was it mint condition and a Oshkosh winner or below average condition to begin with. Really not many old wood prop around, don't expect to even locate one. Why even consider this Bonanza when there are so many out there without these headaches. This plane is possibly worth more in parts.
